Data Registries

Data registries

The backbone of any first-rate research facility is a systematic and accurate data. We have multiple data registries currently accumulating data on diverse cardiovascular aspects both from Cardiology and Cardiothoracic surgery patients. This data serves as a basis for generating quality assurance reports and benchmarking as well as provides an insight into individualized practice metrics. We actively use this data for generating scientific evidence, disseminate the information through publications and conferences, and contribute to the literature on cardiovascular diseases.

International registries

THI is the first institution in Pakistan to become an official member of The National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR®). NCDR is the American College of Cardiology’s (ACC) initiative. It is a suite of cardiovascular data registries helping hospitals and private practices measure and improve the quality of care they provide.

THI is maintaining data of CathPCI since 2012 and of acute coronary syndrome patients since 2013. We affiliated with two registries of NCDR in 2015; Chest pain-MI registry, CathPCI registry. THI is a flag bearer of NCDR in Pakistan and has trained five hospitals across Pakistan to support their registries.

Chest Pain – MI Registry™:

This registry is to record data of patients admitted with heart attacks and angina. We have data of approximately 17000 patients for around 300 variables.

CathPCI Registry®

Data on all patients going for angiography and angioplasty at THI is accumulated through this registry. So far we have recorded data of 25000 coronary angiograms and 12000+ percutanoeus coronary interventions (PCI) with one year follow-up on more than 500 relevant variables.

The data of both the registries is uploaded to NCDR central data base on quarterly basis and an analytical report on quality of care provided at THI compared with US hospitals is generated. The registry helps us to improve the quality of care of patients and safety and efficacy of invasive cardiac treatments. The NCDR registries are led by Dr. Asad Pathan and maintained by Mr. Muhammad Kashif and his team.

Cardiac Registry of Pakistan (CROP):

This is the first national level cardiac registry in Pakistan started in 2017. It is an initiative of Pakistan Society of Interventional Cardiology (PSIC) with the support of Health Research Advisory Board (HRAB). 24 hospitals is part of the registry across Pakistan. Data of 30000+ cases with coronary angiography and angioplasty has been entered.  Through this registry national level data will be available to study patient outcomes and form national guidelines. We feel honored that the Director of CROP registry is the Executive Director of THI, Dr. Bashir Hanif.

Other than international and national registries, THI also maintain in-house registries:

Cardiac Surgery registry

This registry collects data on patients undergoing surgeries at THI such as cardiac bypass and valve replacement procedures. The registry was started in 2011. Data is available for 16000 cases with their complete follow up of 5 years. Cardiac surgery registry is led by Dr. Ghufranullah and managed by Mr. Imran Ali and his team.

Heart Failure Registry

THI keep increasing its data base and will soon start its Heart Failure Registry. It will be an in-house registry where information of all patients who are admitted with heart failure will be gathered. This is led by Dr. Bashir Hanif and managed by Mr. Rehan Malik.

Electrophysiology and intra cardiac device registry

THI receives a good proportion of patients with rhythm disturbances and in the need of pacemaker implantation. This registry is started in 2017 and data on 1000 patients have been collected so far. It is led by Dr. Fariha Sadiq Ali and managed by Mr. Rehan Malik and his team.
